Three Worst Asian Vacation Destinations

Everyone loves travel. But not all countries are created equal. And today’s article shares three of the worst Asian vacation destinations out there.

These are countries and cities which (in my opinion) are a let down for anyone traveling short-term.

If you’ve only got a week or two I’m free time, avoid the following.

1. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Here’s Why)

(Looks Nice, But Not Fun For Short-Term Travel)

Financial centers are usually great places to visit. Nice restaurants, beautiful women, high-end shopping, and excellent nightlife.

Kuala Lumpur is a bit different. While the city is an up and coming financial powerhouse, its amenities leave a lot to be desired. Most residents are Chinese, Middle Eastern, or Indian businessman, making the male-to-female ratio way out of whack. Not the best situation if you’re looking to experience urban nightlife.

Additionally, prices are sky-high, especially compared to neighboring countries like Thailand.

Kuala Lumpur is less like New York or Tokyo, and more like visiting Washington DC.

It’s a good place to do business, but not somewhere I’d recommend vacationing.

Better alternative: Tokyo. A much better city with more cultural attractions and superior nightlife.

2. Seoul, South Korea During Winter

(Freezing Temperatures All Winter Long)

I love Seoul, it’s a great city with wonderful infrastructure.

That said, do not go here during winter!

I made the mistake of visiting during the 2018 Winter Olympics, and the weather was horrible. After 10 minutes outdoors it feels like you’re freezing to death.

Be aware of this, and don’t make the classic tourist mistake of visiting between December and March.

Doing so makes it virtually impossible to spend time outdoors.

Better alternative: Seoul during summer. All the fun of Korea’s flagship city, without the subzero temperatures.

3. Any Of The Tiny Pacific Islands

(Looks Fun, But As Someone Who Used To Live In The Caribbean I’ll Be The First To Tell You That Island Life Gets Boring)

This is somewhat of a blanket statement and admittedly I haven’t visited every single island in the Pacific.

That said, I’ve been to enough. And I can confidently say that many of these places are fine for a weekend, but get old after that. There’s little to do besides swimming or laying on the beach.

Unless you’re really into SCUBA diving, or on your honeymoon, there’s not a lot of reason to spend time on one of these tiny islands.

Better alternative: Any coastal town in a major country. You get the beach and ocean, plus there’s more to do in the surrounding cities. I personally recommend Da Nang and Nha Trang.

Closing Thoughts On The Worst Asian Vacation Destinations

Spend your holiday someplace interesting or exciting. Don’t mar your experience with bad weather, boredom, and lackluster attractions.

Instead, pick a more traditional spot like Tokyo, Thailand, Vietnam, or the Philippines.

You’ll be glad you did.
