There’s a lot of buzz about a Vietnam Travel Ban to combat coronavirus. This is leading to misinformation as the rules and regulations are still unclear.
To help, I’ve contacted the authorities to get an official report on travel situation regarding American passport holders.
Here are the official regulations:
Due to the situation of COVID-19, since 15th March 2020, Vietnam Immigration Department will temporarily stop accepting Visa on Arrival for all countries around the world upon Vietnam arrival airport.
Therefore, regarding your visa procedure, Vietnam Immigration Department will fax your visa approval letter to Vietnam Embassy and we will send you one copy of it via your email also. Then you need to bring this document to the Vietnam Embassy around you to get the official stamp from them.
In addition, please send us the main page photo of your passport and address of the nearest Vietnam Embassy where you’re going to get the visa approval letter as soon as possible!
If you have a visa you should be okay. And if you need your application approved, contact the embassy. Otherwise you can always book another flight to Thailand or the Philippines instead.
