Ever wonder how far your money goes in another country? If so, then this is the article for you. Why? Because I’m about to share cost of living differences in the USA vs Thailand.
We’ll look at three key categories: housing, food, and dating.
Additionally, you’ll also learn what quality of life two similar budgets will buy. It’s something that’s sure to surprise you.
1. Housing Costs: USA Vs Thailand
Where you live has a huge impact on your income.
It’s tough to live in a nice area of the USA for under $2,000 to $3,000 per month.
The same budget gets you some baller housing options in a city like Bangkok. And you can easily rent a whole villa or mansion in some of the smaller cities like Chiang Mai. For $3,000 a month you’re getting a great house or apartment in a nice neighborhood, with housekeeping and maid service.
Case in point, theĀ Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok (one of the nicest places in town) costs about $100 per night. This includes complimentary breakfast, a gym, swimming pool, and daily housekeeping. Plus, you get an excellent view of the river.

That’s luxurious living for very little money.
Living in Bangkok lets you ball out for what you’d spend on a crackerjack apartment back home. When it comes to comparing the USA vs Thailand in this department, Thailand is the clear winner.
2. Food And Health: Which Country Is Better?
What is you is very important. Food fuels your body, eat junk and you’ll feel like garbage. Eat well and you’ll have more energy for conquering life.
When it comes to food, America has some of the best options in the world. The average US citizen eats more protein than anyone in Southeast Asia could ever imagine. Burgers, steak, bacon, ribs, roast beef, pork chops, etc… are all more expensive and less common overseas.
While I love Thai food and think its delicious, it’s not the best for building muscle.
That said, Thailand has tons of fresh fruits and vegetables. And these are much cheaper than their American counterparts. If you’re looking to eat more greens, you’ll love the local food.
But, in terms of health and diet America wins. You’ve got better access to grass-fed steaks, and they’re much cheaper at home.
3. Dating
(Here’s A Random Sampling Of Thai Friendly Users)
Complaining about American women is a popular Internet past time.
Read some of the various dating forums, or men’s blogs and you’re likely to assume there are no hot girls anywhere in the USA. This is absolutely true, depending on where you live.
Major cities have tons of attractive women, especially ones with warm weather climates. The same is true for college towns. Places like Miami have some of the best talent in the world, plus you’ve got a steady stream of girls coming down for vacations and holidays. And that’s not including international tourism either.
Suburbs and smaller cities? Not so much.
If you live in Omaha Nebraska or the suburbs of Washington D.C., you’ll probably struggle. There just aren’t that many attractive women in these areas, and the competition for them is fierce.
Thailand is the reverse of this. You’re average Thai girl is cute but not stunningly hot. This goes for regular women as well as escorts or bar girls.
That said, it’s rare you see an unattractive girl either.
Most Thai women are cute and friendly, making it easy to date them. It’s hard to fully explain this, so you’re better off seeing for yourself. Open a free Thai Friendly or ThaiCupid account and browse some profiles. You’ll understand within 5 minutes.
To summarize: you have better dating options with hotter girls, if you live in a major American city. If you don’t, Thailand is far superior.
Closing Thoughts
As you can see, both countries have their strong points. America is a great place and I love visiting, but your overall quality of life is limited to a few major cities there. Unless you’re in a very specific location (like Miami), you’re missing out.
Likewise, some of these cities are very expensive and not places where everyone can live.
Thailand is much cheaper, thanks to geoarbitrage, letting you enjoy a much higher quality of life. You can live in a palace for for a few thousand bucks a month, you’re surrounded by attractive women, and you get to enjoy warm weather all year.
